Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann

History of Comhaltas History of Comhaltas
Established in 1951, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann aims to preserve our distinct cultural customs in all their manifestations and restore them to a central role in Irish society. After years of neglect, our indigenous culture's future was in jeopardy at this time. After more than 70 years, Comhaltas can legitimately be proud of its accomplishments, and these traditions are now more respected both domestically and internationally.
The ingenuity and skill of individual artists have substantially enhanced the art forms themselves, and the number of participants—both as artists and as viewers—has increased dramatically. Comhaltas now operates 19 cultural facilities and branches in every county in Ireland. Additionally, Comhaltas is expanding its global reach across five continents, with branches in 22 nations offering services to three million individuals annually.
